PRESS RELEASE

Local Photographer’s Work Goes to International Exhibition
Pam Long of Pam Long Photography is honored by peers and jurors for high-quality photography.

Ellicott City, Maryland, August 13, 2014— A Photograph created by Pam Long of Pam Long Photography in Ellicott City, has recently been accepted into the Loan Collection of Professional Photographers of America’s 2014 International Photographic Competition. Long’s work will be on display at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee Feb. 1-3, 2015. This International Photographic Exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of 45 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from nearly 5,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, just over 1,800 images were selected for the General Collection and 918 (roughly 18 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press.

Titled “But I Don’t WANNA Smile”, Long’s photograph will be in the International Photographic Exhibition alongside other top photographic works from the competition and traveling and special invitational displays. These images constitute one of the world’s largest annual exhibits of professional photography gathered simultaneously under one roof.

Just over 48 hours until online registration closes. All those that register before 8/12 at 11:59 pm are eligible for approximately 40 great raffle prizes such as jewelry, gift cards, hair cuts, restaurant gift certificates. And anyone that participates will have plenty of food from: Ledo’s, UNO’s, TBonz, Eggspectation, Einstein bagels, Starbucks coffee, Wine Bin beer and Rock n Roll from BadMoon! Don’t miss out. All of you walkers, runners, moms, dads, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, grandpas, grandmas, students, employers, employees, business owners, politicians, please check out this wonderful opportunity to participate in a race to benefit a tremendous cause.  In August of 2012, two amazing young ladies lives were ended when a train derailed in Historic Ellicott City. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Elizabeth “Liz” Nass and Rose Mayr personally, but after hearing wonderful sentiments about them from many of my high school seniors and some of my family portrait clients, I sure wish I had.

2 Miles for 2 Hearts is a memorial race that will benefit two scholarship funds while celebrating Liz Nass and Rose Mayr lives. This race is a chance for families, friends and the community to celebrate these 2 beautiful young ladies lives while incorporating music, exercise and food….some of their favorite things!

Mollie Reese and her sister, Bridget, participated in the race last year and Mollie shared with me, “We wanted to do the race in memory of Rose and Liz as they were both on the Lancer Drill Team during their time at Mount Hebron. As Lancers ourselves, we wanted to gather all of our current and past teammates and walk in support and remembrance of them and their talent in dance. It was such an amazing event to be a part of and to see so much of the community come out to support these girls and their families. We enjoyed seeing Mount Hebron students, alumni, parents, and other community members come together for a great cause and create something powerful in the girls memory.”
I did not know Rose and Liz, but I will say that I was shocked last year by the community support – even by people who did not know them. It showed how the community comes together in a time of crisis and memorial. I actually noticed this right after we moved here (with my own health scare). It’s nice to see that people support one another and hold people true in the hearts.” Marcie Lovell, a race participant from last year.
Last years runners were entertained by the Federal Hillbillies and the Highland Hill Boys. They were incredibly talented and fun to listen to.  During this years celebration,  participants and volunteers will rock and roll with Bad Moon, be sure to check them out! 🙂
Rusty Allwein, the Race Co-Coordinator, wrote last year after the race, “When Chip and I first talked about putting on a run for Liz and Rose there was no way in the world we could have envisioned the day we had yesterday – so incredible!  And while we have a lot of experience in participating in events, putting one together was something we’ve had minimal experience in doing.  It took so many people to pull this together and working with each person was such a great experience.  It’s amazing what a network of determined people can do – and we did so well we have to do it again!
In the days before the event I was listening to a song – “Times Like These” by the Foo Fighters and part of the lyrics struck me as appropriate for the event –
it’s times like these you learn to live again
it’s times like these you give and give again
it’s times like these you learn to love again
it’s times like these time and time again
I am really honored and glad to have been a part of 2 Miles for 2 Hearts.”
Not able to run? Be sure to volunteer! Out of town?  Okay, then like their event on FB or share the link to their website.  Links to register for either the run or to volunteer are on the website.
 Some important information and links:
We hope to see you this Saturday!  Come out and celebrate these 2 beautiful young ladies.  Plenty of food, live music and beer!
Following are a handful of some race pictures from last year.  We will continue adding more pictures throughout the next couple of days. Hope you enjoy.
THANK YOU to everyone that had a hand in coordinating this wonderful event and to all of the participants.  My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families and friends of Rose and Liz.
