Senior Portrait Photography, Ellicott City–Books, Books, Everywhere!

2 12 2011

Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Rachel, and I’m interning with Pam at Pam Long Photography this year (and I’m thrilled about it!).
We recently had an excellent photo shoot with a senior named Laura from Mount de Sales Academy! We photographed her entire family the week before (check out the photographs below!), and she just couldn’t get enough of us so she got her own senior session! We had a great time photographing her twin brother, Chris as well.

Laura is a big bookworm, and for her photos she brought five bags full of her favorite reading material. We had a great time stacking up the piles into a tunnel for Laura to lie down under and read her favorite book, and everyone got into it! Her collection was envy-inducing: the entire Harry Potter series (bought in England!), Le Morte D’Arthur, Edgar Allen Poe, Looking for Alaska, a whole bunch of books by Tamora Pierce…I would name many more than that, if I could remember them all! It was a super unique set of photos, and lots of fun–especially when she stood up and knocked them all down!
Laura is also a budding photographer, and that lent a whole new set of ideas for portraits. But I won’t ruin the fun: check out some of the samples below!
All in all, it was a great time, one of my favorites so far. Laura, we had a great time doing your senior photos, and we hope you did too!

Fun with the whole family!

Laura’s brother Chris got his senior portraits with us as well!  Chris is an awesome senior at Mount St. Joseph.

And now, a note from Pam.  Wow, what great sessions we had with this incredible family! Jodi, thank you so much for contacting us and choosing Pam Long Photography as your photography studio for your family portraits as well and your senior portraits.  We had a magnificent time with your entire family.  I had a great time planning your different sessions with you, photographing and getting to know your family and having you back in the Studio for your Portrait Premiere. It was fun watching you all interact together.  It’s been a true pleasure getting to know you and your family.  Thank you. 🙂

Rachel, you are a gem.  Thank you for your assistance during the sessions, for your genuine love of photography and for wanting to be the best you can be.  I’m honored to have you interning with Pam Long Photography this year!  And congrats on your first blogpost!!! 😀

Maternity Portraits, Ellicott City Maternity Photographer

29 07 2011

I absolutely love creating maternity portraits.  It’s such an incredible time to celebrate!  We had a wonderful time with these soon-to-be parents, Nicole and Joel.   It was so evident that they were head over heels in love with their little one.

Nicole was up for a great combination of portraits; she really wanted to celebrate this amazing time of their lives. She is gorgeous, loves to laugh, she’s a natural with children, and has a kind heart. Joel was a trooper. He enjoyed watching sports on the big screen during Nicole’s session and was ready to join in whenever we needed him, didn’t even complain when I put him to work holding the reflector ;-). I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with them while creating some maternity photos.

Thank you, Joel and Nicole.  It was an honor for me to document this miraculous time of your lives.  I’m looking forward to meeting Kaitlin. She is very lucky to have you as parents!

Senior Photography in Ellicott City, Howard County

21 07 2011

Wow, I have amazing news that I’m excited to share with you!

As a business owner, you face many challenges of keeping up with the demands of running a business successfully.  And, by successfully, I’m talking about consistently delivering beautiful and high quality products, consistently providing great client service, taking care of the needs of your clients whether they are in your Studio, on location, on the telephone, or on the other end of an email, researching new equipment, maintaining current equipment, finances and accounting, creating marketing pieces, continuing education by scheduling and attending classes, seminars, webinars, and conventions,  keeping up with social media to keep your ‘name’ in front of your clients and potential clients, and giving back to your community.  If you are a business owner you know that I could go on and on with a much longer list but for the sake of getting to my exciting news, I’ll end it there! 😀

As a photographer, we may focus on weddings, maternity, babies, children, family, engagement, high school seniors and boudoir, in studio, on location….whew, it’s a lot! Each of those I LOVE to photograph but in reality, I’ve had to stop marketing for some for the sake of maintaining a high level of client service.  I made a difficult decision a couple of years ago to only accept a handful of weddings each year and concentrate mostly on the portrait side of my business.  My youngest was beginning Kindergarten and my weekends became even more important.  As much as I totally love my wedding couples, I had to make a difficult business decision and cut back on weddings.

Senior photography has been a passion of mine and I LOVE to photograph seniors, but I didn’t have a ‘formal’ senior program, couldn’t spend time marketing to them yet and wasn’t planning on rolling out my official senior program until 2012-2013. Well,…..and here’s the exciting news……I now have a fantastic Senior Program,…..here’s the more exciting news……I have the honor of introducing my lead Senior Photographer!!  A much sought after successful photographer is joining my team and she will lead our Senior Photography division into a fantastic year.  She has successfully run her own business for the last several years, has won numerouos awards for her work, has served as the President for the Maryland Professional Photographers Association and is currently the Chairperson for Maryland PPA, is a counselor for the PPA, Professional Photographers of America along with other accolades.  I am BEYOND thrilled to introduce to you, VANESSA ARD!

Photobucket

Vanessa is Howard County’s premiere senior photographer and has made a great name for herself in the surrounding counties as well.  To say we are ecstatic is an understatement, we are absolutely thrilled that she is joining us at Pam Long Photography.  She is creative,  technically brilliant,  professional, fun and uber, super-uber talented and FANTASTIC photographer.

I’m so excited to be able to continue my passion of photographing high school seniors through Pam Long Photography!  I’m inspired by the creative potential as I get to photograph our clients in a new space and Pam’s gorgeous Garden Studio!  I feel a peace of mind knowing that our combined clientelle will be well cared for by Pam and her fabulous team!”

Here is a sampling of Vanessa’s talent as we introduce to you our 2011-2012 Spokesmodels:

To be able to extend part of my business because I have a wonderfully competent, exceptionally talented photographer joining my team is an unbelievable blessing!  Please join us in welcoming Vanessa to PLP team.

Salon Marielle, Main Street in Ellicott City

20 07 2011

Are you familiar with Salon Marielle?  Do you already receive some of the fantastic services that they provide?  Salon Marielle is an Aveda Salon and MaryAnne Spurlin, the owner, has Salon Marielle by the Bay in Havre de Grace as well. Continue reading and you’ll find some great promotions for current clients and potential clients of the Salon and of Pam Long Photography.

“Our mission at Salon Marielle is to recognize and enhance the natural beauty around us; from the clients we serve to the communities in which we work while maintaining our commitment to the Aveda lifestyle.”
MaryAnne Spurlin, Founder

The Salon came highly recommended  to me a couple of years ago by a few of my friends.  The moment I stepped into their Salon, I was happy to be there.  The aroma of lavendar in the air, the welcoming smiles from the staff members and the attention to detail that I received from my stylist, Kathleen. 🙂

One of the exciting things I wanted to begin this year was to partner with some of the local companies and get more involved in the community.  One way I do this is to offer wall displays to other businesses in which I am impressed.  If they treat their clientele with great respect and truly care about consistently providing great customer service, I offer to partner with them.   It’s been great showing off some of my clients in this wonderful establishment.  The displays will change throughout the years, so be sure to mention to me when you schedule an appointment that you are a Salon Marielle client, perhaps a portrait of you, your child or your family will be displayed on their walls.

Here’s a quick snapshot of one of our displays, located in their waiting room.  My clients have enjoyed their gallery wrapped canvas wall groupings in their homes.
Photobucket

I’ve had the privilege of providing professional headshots for their stylists and staff members. When I consulted with Rachel, the manager of the Salons, I had asked her if she wanted the headshots to look consistent with each other or allow a little creativity so that the different personalities of each stylist could be recognized. She definitely wanted each of her staff members to have some flexibility. It was fun having them in the Studio and getting to know each of them a little bit more. Here are the wonderful staff members of Salon Marielle of Ellicott City and Salon Marielle by the Bay of Havre de Grace.

This will be a large 60″ portrait, proudly diplayed in their Salon.

Baby portraits for handsome Gabriel {Ellicott City Photographer}

23 05 2011

I LOVE having the honor of photographing babies.  Truly, I love everything about it. I love the family portraits we capture, the photographs of mom with the baby, dad with the baby, all of it! Toes, fingers…so cute and tiny!

I’ve had the pleasure of creating many family portraits for this beautiful family. Gabriel is actually their fourth child!….and first boy! Yes, he will have THREE big sisters looking out for him. 🙂

As I look through the images from Gabriel’s session, I’m reminded of when I was pregnant with my now 7 year old and having tears in my eyes while sharing my excitement with Denise (Gabriel’s mom). I couldn’t wait for her and her hubby to experience the joy, the anticipation, the wonder of it all. Well now, fast forward almost 8 years, and they have had FOUR children since then! FOUR!! They handle parenthood so well. Denise and Rob, I admire how you work so beautifully together to balance your personal and professional lives. Your children are very blessed to have you as parents.  Your clients in your real estate company, The Garner Team, are real fortunate to have you as well, you really work hard for them so that their buying and/or selling experience is a good one.

Here are just a few of the images from our morning together.  I’m looking forward to his six months portraits when he is surrounded by all of his adoring sisters!

“Welcome home daddy” and “Happy birthday, baby!” {Ellicott City Photographer}

27 03 2011

So…..I met Shawn last year.  She had called my studio asking if I did “cake smash” photos for babies birthday pictures.  After chatting and answering some questions, I invited her into the Studio to discuss further what she wanted and what I could offer.  I loved our visit, we hit it off right away.

Through our conversation that day at the Studio, I learned that her husband was in the Middle East serving our country.  He would be home in several months when their baby turns one!  AWESOME!!  How great that we could create a family portrait at the same time of Cheyenne’s one year portraits and cake smash photos!

Even though it was several months until daddy would be home, I was able to see Cheyenne and her mommy a few times.  I invited her to help me showcase some of my new tutu sets, Cheyenne was a great little model.

Hi daddy!!  Hurry home!

Fast forward now,  to last month when the long awaited trip from husband and daddy was finally realized.  Brian was now on U.S soil and with his family!!! 😀 He, his beautiful wife and baby and his parents all came to my studio for a great afternoon.  It was a true honor and joy to have all of them here.

Here are some of the portraits that we created that fun February day.

First of all, THANK YOU, BRIAN, for serving our country.  I’m so thankful for you and all of our servicemen and women.
