Wow, I have amazing news that I’m excited to share with you!

As a business owner, you face many challenges of keeping up with the demands of running a business successfully. ¬†And, by successfully, I’m talking about consistently delivering beautiful and high quality products, consistently providing great client service, taking care of the needs of your clients whether they are in your Studio, on location, on the telephone, or on the other end of an email, researching new equipment, maintaining current equipment, finances and accounting, creating marketing pieces, continuing education by scheduling and attending classes, seminars, webinars, and conventions, ¬†keeping up with social media to keep your ‘name’ in front of your clients and potential clients, and giving back to your community. ¬†If you are a business owner you know that I could go on and on with a much longer list but for the sake of getting to my exciting news, I’ll end it there! ūüėÄ

As a photographer, we may focus on weddings, maternity, babies, children, family, engagement, high school seniors and boudoir, in studio, on location….whew, it’s a lot! Each of those I LOVE to photograph but in reality, I’ve had to stop marketing for some for the sake of maintaining a high level of client service. ¬†I made a difficult decision a couple of years ago to only accept a handful of weddings each year and concentrate mostly on the portrait side of my business. ¬†My youngest was beginning Kindergarten and my weekends became even more important. ¬†As much as I totally love my wedding couples, I had to make a difficult business decision and cut back on weddings.

Senior photography has been a passion of mine and I LOVE to photograph seniors, but I didn’t have a ‘formal’ senior program, couldn’t spend time marketing to them yet and wasn’t planning on rolling out my official senior program until 2012-2013. Well,…..and here’s the exciting news……I now have a fantastic Senior Program,…..here’s the more exciting news……I have the honor of introducing my lead Senior Photographer!! ¬†A much sought after successful photographer is joining my team and she will lead our Senior Photography division into a fantastic year. ¬†She has successfully run her own business for the last several years, has won numerouos awards for her work, has served as the President for the Maryland Professional Photographers Association and is currently the Chairperson for Maryland PPA, is a counselor for the PPA, Professional Photographers of America along with other accolades. ¬†I am BEYOND thrilled to introduce to you, VANESSA ARD!

Vanessa is Howard County’s premiere senior photographer and has made a great name for herself in the surrounding counties as well. ¬†To say we are ecstatic is an understatement, we are absolutely thrilled that she is joining us at Pam Long Photography. ¬†She is creative, ¬†technically brilliant, ¬†professional, fun and uber, super-uber talented and FANTASTIC photographer.

I’m so excited to be able to continue my passion of photographing high school seniors through Pam Long Photography! ¬†I’m inspired by the creative potential as I get to photograph our clients in a new space and Pam’s gorgeous Garden¬†Studio! ¬†I feel a peace of mind knowing that our combined clientelle will be well cared for by Pam and her fabulous team!”

Here is a sampling of Vanessa’s talent as we introduce to you our 2011-2012 Spokesmodels:

To be able to extend part of my business because I have a wonderfully competent, exceptionally talented photographer joining my team is an unbelievable blessing!  Please join us in welcoming Vanessa to PLP team.

Salon Marielle, Main Street in Ellicott City

20 07 2011

Are you familiar with Salon Marielle?¬† Do you already receive some of the fantastic services that they provide? ¬†Salon Marielle is an Aveda Salon and MaryAnne Spurlin, the owner, has Salon Marielle by the Bay in Havre de Grace as well. Continue reading and you’ll find some great promotions for current clients and potential clients of the Salon and of Pam Long Photography.

‚ÄúOur mission at Salon Marielle is to recognize and enhance the natural beauty around us; from the clients we serve to the communities in which we work while maintaining our commitment to the Aveda lifestyle.‚ÄĚ
MaryAnne Spurlin, Founder

The Salon came highly recommended ¬†to me a couple of years ago by a few of my friends. ¬†The moment I stepped into their Salon, I was happy to be there. ¬†The aroma of lavendar in the air, the welcoming smiles from the staff members and the attention to detail that I received from my stylist, Kathleen. ūüôā

One of the exciting things I wanted to begin this year was to partner with some of the local companies and get more involved in the community. ¬†One way I do this is to offer wall displays to other businesses in which I am impressed. ¬†If they treat their clientele with great respect and truly care about consistently providing great customer service, I offer to partner with them. ¬† It’s been great showing off some of my clients in this wonderful establishment. ¬†The displays will change throughout the years, so be sure to mention to me when you schedule an appointment that you are a Salon Marielle client, perhaps a portrait of you, your child or your family will be displayed on their walls.

Here’s a quick snapshot of one of our displays, located in their waiting room. ¬†My clients have enjoyed their gallery wrapped canvas wall groupings in their homes.

I’ve had the privilege¬†of providing professional headshots for their stylists and staff members. When I consulted with Rachel, the manager of the Salons, I had asked her if she wanted the headshots to look consistent with each other or allow a little creativity so that the different personalities of each stylist could be recognized. She definitely wanted each of her staff members to have some flexibility. It was fun having them in the Studio and getting to know each of them a little bit more. Here are the wonderful staff members of Salon Marielle of Ellicott City and Salon Marielle by the Bay of Havre de Grace.

This will be a large 60″ portrait, proudly diplayed in their Salon.

ūüėÄ ¬†A SPECIAL OFFER FROM SALON MARIELLE – You receive a free glossing with any haircut with Elizabeth, April or Amanda at their Main Street, Ellicott City Salon. ¬†And at their Havre de Grace Salon, you receive the same offer from Sara or Alisha. ¬†Be sure to mention that you saw their offer on my blog when you book your appointment in order to receive the free treatment.

ūüėÄ ¬†A SPECIAL OFFER FROM PAM LONG PHOTOGRAPHY¬†¬†to any STAFF MEMBER or¬†CLIENT of the Salon Marielle family call by July 31st and receive $75 off of your session fee! ¬†Yes, you read it correctly, $75 off! ¬†Call between now and midnight July 31st to schedule a design appointment to plan your photo session. ¬†The photo session must take place before August 31 in order to qualify for this amazing offer. ¬†Let us know that you’re a client of Salon Marielle and what your favorites services are that you receive there and you will receive your $75 off when you book your session. ¬†Remember, this offer is good through midnight, July 31. ¬†Call NOW to save $75 off of your session! (offer is valid on regular sessions in Studio, Garden Studio or on location, not valid on mini sessions and cannot be combined with any other special offers).

I’m looking forward to serving you.

Ilchester Elementary prepares for a night at Camden Yards!

30 05 2011

Recently, the children and staff of Ilchester Elementary¬†spent the morning with the very fun, hilariously animated Oriole Bird, the fantastic mascot for the Orioles! ¬†Escorting the Bird were some of Howard County’s finest police officers. ¬†And, although it was a dreary, rainy day outside, it was a bright and festive day inside the school! ¬†Later that day, hundreds of the school children and their parents enjoyed a fun evening watching the game from the stands.

This was the seventh year that this phenomenal school community had attended Ilchester Night at Camden Yards! ¬†Each year, several hundred people from Ilchester Elementary School make it an evening at Camden Yards. ¬†When ticket sales begin, typically several weeks before the game day, the parents are asked if they’d consider purchasing an additional ticket to be used as a donation. ¬†Donated tickets in the past have gone to the The Kennedy Krieger Institute as well as the Ronald McDonald House.

This year, for the third year in a row, the tickets were donated to the Howard County Police Department’s BearTrax Kids Program. ¬†This is a mentoring program for elementary school children in Howard County who are deemed “at-risk” by their school administrations and would otherwise, for a variety of reasons, not have the opportunity to attend a baseball game.

The students at Ilchester are learning a valuable lesson about the differences between them and the caring of their neighbors. ¬†Ilchester Elementary School¬†is also fostering a wonderful relationship of cooperation between IES and the other elementary schools in Howard County, MD. ¬†They hope to continue this for many years to come. ¬†And, as a mother of two children at Ilchester, I hope they do too! ūüėÄ

Their night at Camden Yards was eventful, definitely a nail biter.  It went into 15 innings!!  Unfortunately, the Yankees walked away with the win on the scoreboard.  But I believe that the Ilchester staff, and children, along with their families, walked away with the win in their hearts!

Thank you to everyone at Ilchester, the Howard County Police Department and the Orioles organization for continuing to go above and beyond in providing for our children! ¬†We certainly appreciate you! ūüôā

I hope you enjoy this video of the student’s fun morning with the Oriole Bird!

Thank you!

Time to play catch-up!

25 03 2011

Wow, I’ve been a huge slacker in regards to blogging. I have so many wonderful sessions (since last fall!!! ūüė¶ ) that I need to get up here online. I’m blessed with the best clients in the world and I need to show them off!

In reality, blogging is not the top of the priority list. Returning calls and emails, priority. Consultations with clients, priority. Photo sessions, priority. View and choose appointments, priority. Professionally retouching images and placing their orders, priority. Packaging orders, priority! Being with my family in the evenings and weekends, priority. Teaching the children in my ABC Jamboree classes, priority.

I LOVE blogging about my clients.  But it does take time and my priority has to be to get the finished products to my clients.  Fortunately, I run a busy studio, I have a beautiful family and I run ABC Jamboree.  I am striving to create more pockets of time to do some of these extra things that need to be done! Thank you for your patience!!

My newest goal is to become regular at blogging and to catch up on photo sessions that have already occurred! ¬†Perhaps I’ll have a Make-Up Monday blogpost each week. ūüėÄ

Thank you!

A very successful fundraiser for Preston Scibek…

4 10 2010

last month at Four Seasons Sports Complex in Hampstead, MD.

An aggressive goal was set to raise $5000 for Preston.  Many people came out and donated and not only was the goal reached, but exceeded to $6800!!

Last year, during Thanksgiving week, 10 year-old Preston Scibek, of Hampstead, MD found out he had cancer. He has been very strong and brave as he’s battled it this past year. It’s a very rare cancer, but they’ve had a great team of doctors that have been working hard to cure him. They’ve been through tremendous challenges to fight this unfair disease. Preston is currently in Boston with his beautiful mom, Shareen, undergoing 6 weeks of Proton radiation. Even though his dad, Scott, and his brother Grant, are home in Hampstead, the family has worked hard at being an amazing team.
I love this boy and his family and hope that you will take a moment to check out Preston’s story. ¬†Please click here to visit his CaringBridge site to read his story.

I would like to thank Four Season Sports Complex for reaching out the way they do for their community.  Thank you and all of the generous people that helped raise money for this beautiful family.

Pam Long Photography donated a gift certificate for a free photo session and wall portrait. ¬†I was hoping that Preston could be the one that would reach in the bag and pull out the winner. ¬†He and his mom had to leave for Boston while the fundraising event was still being held so Preston wasn’t able to pick the winning entry. ¬†Then we thought that Grant, Preston’s brother, could pick the winner….but he was at a friend’s house the day I met Scott to draw the winner. ¬†So…….I had both of my daughter’s with me when I met with Scott. ¬†Of course, to keep it fair to them, we had BOTH of them pick a winner. ¬†2 winners instead of 1, a nice bonus!!

Congratulations to Missy and Rod Atkins and to Nancy Suder. ¬†We will be contacting you with information to claim your prize! ¬†I’m looking forward to photographing your families. ¬†Thank you so much for participating.

We are having an In Studio fundraising event for Preston on October 16th.  Please check out our blog tomorrow for the announcement of how to get your little ones here for our Halloween Charity Bash.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and prayers for the Scibek family and for all families struggling with health challenges.

12 04 2010

for you generosity.

The voting for the International Charity Model Search has ended.  Because of our wonderful families that participated and you, we raised almost $750 through your online voting in less than 2 weeks!!  That money will go to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep to help support this wonderful organization.

I am so proud of the work our families did to get the word out. ¬†They emailed their friends and families, they posted messages on their facebook pages and they made phone calls. ¬†Great job! ¬†I am incredibly honored to be your photographer and friend. ¬†NILMDTS is near to my heart and I appreciate everybody’s participation.

Congratulations to all of the state winners! I love how all of the families and photographers around the nation worked so hard to bring awareness and donations to NILMDTS. We should find out soon what the total amount raised for the nation is; I will pass the info along.

Thanks again to my beautiful, wonderful families.

The Gibson family…

The Garner family…

The Luber family…

Thank you!!!

One more wonderful family to consider for the National Charity Model Search

1 04 2010

for America’s cutest family.

The Garner family! ¬†This family portrait was taken on Rob and Denise’s 10 year wedding anniversary! ¬†Rob, with great detail, secretly planned a surprise anniversary party for Denise at the Peabody Court Hotel. ¬†What Denise knew was that she would be getting a new family portrait to display on her wall. ¬† The portrait would be taken in the afternoon and then the family would be together that evening for a special dinner – that’s what Denise knew. ¬†Plan “A” was for the family portrait to be taken on the steps of Mt. Vernon Place United Methodist Church, the same place that Denise and Rob stood ten years ago as bride and groom. ¬†The weather didn’t cooperate so we stayed inside for their portraits, we were able to get wonderful images in their spacious penthouse room. Later that evening, Denise was brought to tears as the elevator opened to the terrace level at the Peabody and she was greeted by 100+ friends and family.

Last year, the Garner’s older 2 daughters participated¬†in the National Model Search for the cutest kiddo. ¬†Toward the end of the contest, Denise contacted me to see if there was a way to find out the number of votes cast for each of our models. ¬†She and her husband, through The Garner Team at Coldwell Banker, ¬†wanted to match the current donations of all of our models! ¬†Instead of putting the additional money on their own children, they matched what each of the children currently had!!! ¬†A totally unselfish, generous gift to the other models and to Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

The National Charity Model Search contest raises money and awareness for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, a wonderful, charitable organization. Please feel free to click on the link to see why I became a volunteer for NILMDTS and why my studio and clients are participating in the contest.

Click here and you will go directly to the voting site. ¬†Once there, ¬†click on Tour City and scroll to ‚ÄúBaltimore‚ÄĚ, then click on ‚ÄėGarner‚Äô. ¬†You will then have the opportunity of voting for their family. ¬†Each vote is $1, you can choose to cast any # of votes you‚Äôd like! ¬†We, and NILMDTS appreciate all of the votes and your consideration.

Denise and Rob, thank you for your continued loyalty throughout the years, I love photographing your family.  Best of luck in the contest!  Thanks for helping us, once again,  raise money for this great cause!
