Rockstar Roadtrip…

1 04 2008

starring Corey McNabb and Amber Holritz…comes to DC!!

I had the honor of attending Corey and Amber’s Rockstar Roadtrip workshop yesterday.  They are absolutely wonderful, talented and knowledgable photographers!

I was lucky enough to meet  Amber and her husband, Nathan,  last year  in Chicago at Pictage’s PartnerCon.  They are a great example of how a husband and wife team can successfully run a business together.

Corey spent the morning sharing ideas about wedding photography and Amber shared her knowledge on Lifestyle Portraiture in the afternoon.  Both offered great insight.  If you’re a photographer and have the oppotunity to check them out…do so!!!

Here’s Curt, our rep from Pixel2Canvas, Amber and Corey as they search for “something” (sorry I can’t divulge what it was) 😉 on the net…

After the informative morning and afternoon sessions and a Q & A session, they broke out the Rock Band.  Photogs jumped in to jam!  Here, Amber shows us how to rock with the best…

and Corey…

Rock on Corey and Amber. Thanks so much for making a stop in DC. We really appreciate you taking time away from your families and businesses to share with us!

Several terrific companies are sponsoring this event.  Photographer’s Edit is one of them.  What a great tool for busy photographers.  If you’re a photographer who is ‘time-challenged’ and find it difficult to edit your events or would like to spend more of your time shooting and less time behind the computer, check them out, they look fantastic!  Thank you Photographer’s Edit for a fabulous lunch!

NYC Party of 3

24 02 2008

I received an email from Mike Larson last November (I know, I’m just now catching up with my blogposts from the busy holiday season!).  He was going to have a small workshop in New York City in the beginning of December and wanted to give me a heads up.  I was thrilled with the possibility to gain knowledge from him again.  He had previously flown out from California in October to share with the Washington and Baltimore PUGs (Pictage User Groups).  He was fresh, insightful and positive.

I was able to work it out and am so thankful that I could.

Mike shared his time, ideas and knowledge with Lloyd, a photographer from NJ  (his site isn’t live yet),  and Stephen a photographer from Florida  and me!

Mike shares studio space with Present Focus on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on the 27th floor of a highrise.  Here’s the view from the balcony…

It had been a couple of years since I’d been to the city, I miss it and LOVE IT!!

Here’s a picture of the late afternoon sky…INTENSE!!!

The winds were moving at about a gzillion mph.  We almost tied ourselves to the railing on the balcony just to take the pictures!!

Photography is more than snapping great pictures.  It’s a constantly evolving profession.  Lighting, posing, camera operations, exposure, color temperatures,  post processing, marketing, product research, learning how to be efficient,  accounting, public relations, customer relations, training….the list goes on.  If you want to be a real pro in this field it takes huge commitment in regards to both time and money.  I have a genuine passion for this medium and I’m thankful that there are others who are willing to share from their experiences.  Mike is one of them.  He’s traveled the miles to help others, all with integrity and great character.  Thanks Mike, you are truly appreciated.

Thanks also to KISS Wedding Books and California Sunbounce for sponsoring this workshop.  The cost of this learning experience was really reasonable, partly due to them.

Eddie Tapp presents to MDPPA

19 10 2007

It’s been a week of seminars….

Wednesday I had the honor of attending Eddie Tapp’s Photoshop Seminar.  He’s a great speaker with a wealth of knowledge in post production workflow.  Many times during the class you’d think fireworks were going off with all of the “oouuuuuu’s” and “aahhhhhh’s”.  He had the honor of touring 23 cities with Monte Zucker last year and held back tears while telling us about it.

Can’t wait to try some of the new actions and procedures that he demonstrated.  Fantastic!

Here’s Eddie with my friend and fellow photographer Anne Looney

Mike flew out from Southern California yesterday to share his knowledge and experiences with photographers from the DC and Baltimore PUGs (Pictage User Groups) .

Mike’s life experiences have taught him to be a terrific photographer and a smart businessman.  He travels domestically and internationally as a wedding and lifestyle photographer as well as a speaker.  He has a beautiful wife whom he loves and adores; together they set a fantastic example of what marriage is all about. The love they share for one another is evident in all that they do.  Be sure to check out Love Is A .  Rachel, thank you so much for sharing him with us last night.

Here’s a shot of Mike (thanks for taking it Geoff  ) sharing a slideshow during his presentation…

A quick shout out to the staff of Levante’s in Bethesda.  Several of us met Mike for dinner at your place…..the staff was great and food was FANTASTIC!  I had the feta pide and ate the entire portion.  yummmm.  Thanks Jessica and Sarah for setting it up.   If anybody is in Bethesda and wants eastern mediterranean style food, check them out for sure!
