Pam Long Photography reopens!!

24 08 2016

EXCITING NEWS!

Pam Long Photography will reopen TODAY, Wednesday, August 24, 2016! We are thrilled to be back in our studio again!!

Please contact me to set up your appointment! We are excited to work again and we appreciate your patience since the devastating flood that raged through Historic Ellicott City, July 30, 2016. If you’ve ever considered having me photograph your family, high school senior or your pets, this is a GREAT time to call! 🙂  We will have an amazing time creating beautiful portrait art for you to enjoy for years to come. And remember, we provide business portraits if you’re in need of an updated headshot!

85% of our portraits have been created in our studio or along Main Street, using our beautiful town, buildings and river as backdrops. Though we will not, at this time, have access to Main Street, we do have access to other incredible locations until Main Street reopens. I’m looking forward to creating breathtaking and impressive portraits with you, whether it’s in our studio or on location. Guaranteed fun, no matter where we are! I appreciate the generosity of so many people offering their gorgeous locations for my outdoor sessions.

Please note, access to my studio will be through the back of our building via Church Road, by appointment only, and you’ll be escorted into our ‘gated community’ :-)!

I truly appreciate everyone that has reached out to me this past month. Your words of encouragement have meant the world to me. While I’m thrilled to be working again, I look forward to the day when I see my fellow businesses and residents right back where they belong. xo

I’d like to extend a very special thank you to Pam Mason of Mason and Friends and to Regina Ford and Pete Mangione of Turf Valley Resort and to Kristin (leaving her last name off because it’s her personal property) for offering to share your space, with me and my clients, while mine was not available. You were a special light that shone during a very uncertain time.

Thank you to everybody for your heartfelt messages that you’ve sent! Thank you to friends, my husband and daughters for helping me get my studio up to snuff these past few weeks, I couldn’t be opening today without your help! 🙂 I’ve said many times, that I’m one of the more fortunate ones, with minor damage.  Having said that, it hasn’t been easy in the least. But, I’m looking forward to rECharging, starting TODAY! #ECStrong #rECover
I’m looking forward to hearing from you. 410.988.5563 or pam@pamlongphotography.com
THANK YOU!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It breaks my heart thinking of the lives lost that evening, thinking of the people that suffered, thinking of how powerful the water raged that evening to cause such destruction. So many residents have been displaced and business owners and employees without income because of a two hour span of time!
I will be writing more blogposts about the progress made these past few weeks, but I want to take a moment and thank the county leaders for guiding this mission to help the residents, business owners, building owners and employees of Historic Ellicott City come back stronger. Thank you, Allan Kittleman for your leadership and communication. As progress has evolved, you have continually kept us informed. Thank you, Jon Weinstein, for being here every step of the way, and for immediately turning around, after landing in Spain for your much deserved vacation, to come back and be with us. Thank you to our state leaders for your assistance, thank you Governor Hogan. To the police for working around the clock helping to keep our town secure, thank you. To all of the emergency personnel for everything you’ve done and continue doing, thank you. To Maureen Sweeney-Smith, Karen Besson, Tom Coale and the ECP Board for being beyond awesome while working hard for us. To all of the county workers, working so hard bringing our town back, thank you. I’d like to thank the volunteers and the organizers for all of their time and resources they’ve invested in helping everyone in need, you are AH-MAZING! To the people and businesses that have donated supplies to help with the clean up venture, thank you! To everyone that has donated to http://www.helpellicottcity.com, thank you! To everyone that has donated to personal gofundme pages, thank you. To the neighbors helping neighbors, you are amazing, thank you. To everyone that has shared info and events on social media, raising awareness, thank you. To all of the many businesses hosting fundraisers, thank you. For the young ones having lemonade stands and bake sales, thank you. To the many friends and strangers that booted up and shoveled through stores, helping the business owners, thank you. To my daughters who understood, without getting upset, when we had to cancel our mini vacation, thank you. There are so many people to thank, and again, I’ll write more on that subject, but thank you for keeping the beautiful people of our town in your thoughts and prayers. I’m blessed to be a part of our wonderful commUNITY.
These two photos were taken by my building owner, Ron Peters. Unfortunately, he had three properties damaged by the flood. I appreciate Ron’s endless desire to work swiftly and efficiently to get his tenants back in his houses and buildings. He got the necessary work done and inspectors in asap in order to restore some sort of normalcy for his tenants so they could move back home! I’m happy that the tenants in the Howard House are back in their apartments and his commercial renters can be open for business! I’m fortunate that you are my landlord! Thank you, Ron!! You ROCK!
This is the first day that I headed in to check out the studio.
I hope to hear from you soon and look forward to creating beautiful works of art with you!
Thank you!
“Paint Down Main” Quick Draw Event, Historic Ellicott City
20 08 2016
On July 9, 2016, talented (& calm) artists created artwork that they painted in historic downtown Ellicott City during a TWO hour period.  “Paint Down Main”, Quick Draw competition was held on a hot, but beautiful, Saturday morning and it was an AMAZING event to watch! “Paint Down Main” Quick Draw event is within the Paint It! Ellicott City Plein Air Event. How awesome for spectators to witness a piece of art created and completed in such a short amount of time!
The sponsors of this creative and challenging event were Mat About You Custom Framing & Gallery, Ellicott City Partnership (ECP), Howard County Arts Council, Howard County Tourism.
At noon, the blow of the horn sounded, signaling the finish time, painters gathered at the Howard County Tourism lot, displayed their artwork and waited patiently 🙂 while the jurors judged their art. Judges Steve Stannard of Steve Stannard’s Salient Group,  Char Randolph of ClayGround and Sara Arditti, of Still Life Fine Art Gallery, chose winners in the competition for cash prizes. Patrons could then purchase their favorite painting directly off the easel or visit the Paint Down Main exhibit during the Ellicott City 2nd Sunday Art Market, held at Mat About You Gallery on July 10th.
This awesome event is the brainchild of Chuck Gruss of Mat About You, “We hold this event to give the town’s visitors, a chance to see a piece of art work come together from start to finish.  It’s not too often someone gets a chance to see that happen in a such a short amount of time”.
Last year, 2015, was the inaugural year and welcomed 33 participants competing for $600 in cash prizes! This year, 2016, there were 48 participants competing for $1200 in cash prizes!! Mat About you Custom Framing and Gallery, Ellicott City Partnership and Chesapeake Fine Art Studio all donated toward the cash prizes.
Winners from the “Paint Down Main” Quick Draw;
1st Place “Main Street Ellicott City” by Alison Leigh Menke
2nd Place “Little House, Big Woods” by Courtney E. Lee
3rd Place “Wired” by Ray Ewing
Top Non-Juried “Tiber River Under Parking Lot” by Jane Knighton
Honorable Mentions:
-“Old Columbia Pike” by Tara Will
-“Ask Not” by Joanna Burnum
-“Tiger & Blues” by Ann Crostic
-“Tongue Row” by Deborah Cole
-Under 18 Winner “Oriental Rugs” by Ashley Hof
-Under 18 Honorable Mentions, “Park” by Laila Lowery and “City Shop” by Jonathan Storch
-People’s Choice “Old Columbia Pike” by Tara Will
This is one of the many cultural events held in Historic Ellicott City throughout the year. I am looking forward to having our street back and rockin’ the events again!
As I walked around the Quick Draw boundaries, searching for painters, I was in complete awe with what I saw.  Each painter interpreted their views so differently and every single one of them, so magnificently. I loved seeing the many different techniques the artists displayed, the different interpretations of the same landscape. The unique color choices, some muted, some vibrant. Yet they all had something in common, they each produced incredible and beautiful pieces of art.
I hope you enjoy these photos.
Thank you to everyone involved! Hope to see you next year!
Howard High School Twins Portrait Session
24 06 2016
What a FUN and GREAT time I had with these twin (graduated) high school seniors during their photo shoot! These two seniors are a FANTASTIC reason for mom and dad to be proud! I was very impressed with them during their portrait session and ordering session.They got along so well with each other :-), had fun and laughed with one another, they’re both respectful and an absolute blast to be around! These Class of 2016 Seniors from Howard High School have a tremendous future in front of them.
They have a trio of wall portraits displayed in their home, here is one of their pieces of artwork.Brother and sister formal portrait photographer Howard County Pam Long Photography studio Ellicott City MD
Can’t you tell by their expressions that they are awesome young adults?
Ashleigh’s senior portraits in Historic Ellicott City
2 05 2016
Many people think that high school senior portraits need to be taken during the summer, prior to the student’s senior year. And, for many of seniors, they are! We, at Pam Long Photography, do meet with a lot of our seniors during the summer, fall and winter of their senior year. All of the high schools have different deadlines for yearbook picture submissions; so if a senior has us creating the traditional drape or tux image, timing is definitely dictated by those deadlines.  Our schools in Howard County, MD have deadlines that are spread out from beginning of December, through mid April! I love the flexibility that gives us and allows us to work with these high school students throughout the entire year. We offer a limited number of sessions each week, and it’s awesome that these families can schedule their session when it fits in to their busy schedule as well as ours!
Ashleigh’s mom had contacted us because her daughter had seen some of our senior portraits of her friends. I was thrilled to meet with them during their portrait consultation. Through talking with her and discussing her style, and having her look through several of our senior photos, I knew which direction we’d take Ashleigh. We eagerly set the date for her senior portrait session!
The snowy, windy, winter weather prevented us from meeting for her portrait session a couple of different times, but when we were able to get together, we had a FUN photo shoot! 🙂 Ashleigh was able to fall in to any pose so easily and naturally. The different facial expressions that I asked for seemed effortless on her part….she was really incredible in front of the camera, quite natural.
Ashleigh and Kim, thank you for choosing Pam Long Photography! I’m glad you’re thrilled with your senior portraits, I enjoyed working with you so much, truly such an honor! Plus, my abs got a great workout from all of the laughter! 😀
Brian’s senior portrait session in Ellicott City!!
21 04 2016
Howard County High School Senior photographer Pam Long Photography studio Ellicott City MD
Brian is a Class of 2016 high school senior from Mt Hebron High School.
When Brian’s mom contacted me about taking her son’s senior portraits, it was a very familiar conversation. Throughout his entire school year he expressed no interest in having his senior pictures taken. I know I’ve said this before, but most senior guys come to our photography studio because ‘mom wants the pictures’ (but then thankfully, they leave realizing how fun it is) :-). But this time, it was a little different from the normal script. Brian had seen some portraits that we had created of other seniors and specifically of some very talented musicians, and he liked them! YAY!  He had a change of heart and wanted senior portraits after all! Brian is an extremely gifted and dedicated musician, he’s an extraordinary bassoon player. And with the marching band, he plays the saxophone!
In addition to Brian’s musical accomplishments, he’s also a member of the National Honor Society. And, as if academics and music aren’t enough, he works as a life guard and swim instructor!  He’s been accepted and will be attending University of Maryland in the Fall where he’ll be a Music and Computer Science major! Congratulations, Brian! 🙂
Of course we created the formal portrait for him but he was interested in some casual photos as well.
I love these words that Lisa, Brian’s mom, shared with me, “These pictures of Brian warm my heart; the essence of his talent shines in his eyes. I am so proud of his accomplishments. I wish for Brian to continue to follow his passion; and success and happiness will always be his.”
Brian was very enjoyable to work with, he had great input and felt comfortable sharing his expectations.
Brian, I’m so glad you had a change of heart and wanted senior portraits after all. I really appreciate you and your mom choosing Pam Long Photography.  Thank you. I’m looking forward to seeing what your future holds; I know it’s going to be tremendous! 🙂
Extended family portraits!
17 03 2016
This wonderful family came into our portrait studio during the holidays. Grandma and Grandpa, two sisters and their beautiful families. Lori, one of the sisters, is local to Ellicott City, MD. She contacted me to create their new extended family portraits and we were able to get together to achieve that during the holidays!
Lori remembered that we had done a fundraiser for her friend’s son that had recently been diagnosed with leukemia. We had held “Chase-ing Away Cancer”, offering mini portrait sessions  and we had the honor and immense privilege of photographing 14 families on a beautiful Sunday in November! 🙂 We’ll be blogging and sharing great photos about that eventually. I was happy to schedule Lori’s extended family portrait session and add to the fundraising efforts for the Wheatley family.
Extended Family photographer in Howard County Maryland Pam Long Photography studio Ellicott City MD
I had a great time with this family and enjoyed hanging out with all of them. I loved watching them interact together, they joked, they laughed and I really enjoyed the vibe they all had with one another. Following their portrait session, the men and kids went shopping along Historic Ellicott City’s Main Street while Lori, her sister Becca and mom, Karen, sat down to choose their favorite portraits.
I hope you enjoy their family portraits. If you’re reading this, please ask yourself this question: When was the last time you had your family portrait taken? Has it been more than a year or 2? Class of 2016 Senior Spokesmodels Highlights video!
4 03 2016
These Class of 2016 high school seniors are quite an incredible group of young adults! They attend high schools in Howard County and Anne Arundel County, Maryland and I’m honored and happy that they are Pam Long Photography Class of 2016 Senior Spokemodels! We’ve created some of these senior photos in our portrait studio as well as the streets of Historic Ellicott City and loved shooting on location with them too. These seniors ROCKED it no matter where we were.
These high school seniors not only do well academically but are involved in sports, clubs, music groups, business groups, volunteer with charitable causes, all while maintaining a challenging academic schedule….touring colleges….filling out college applications….enjoying family and friends….having a life! They are kind, smart, giving, fun, beautiful, talented, driven, successful and sweet.
Some of the outfits and accessories that our seniors are wearing are courtesy of A Journey from Junk and Sweet Elizabeth Jane, two of our favorites boutiques on Main Street, be sure to check them out when you’re in Historic Ellicott City, Maryland! Hair and makeup for our Spokesmodel Day provided by Blush, definitely keep them in mind for your professional needs.
We wish the entire Class of 2016 all the best! Your adventure awaits! Keep in touch with us – we want to celebrate your successes! Thank you for choosing Pam Long Photography to create your senior portraits! AND Thank you for representing Pam Long Photography.  I’m looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks for our next Spokesmodel shoot! 🙂
Thank you, Matt, Haley, Lyndsey, Maddy, Allie, Josh, Grace, Alayna, Emma, Abby, Lauren, Samantha and Ashley!
