Pam Long Photography reopens!!

24 08 2016

EXCITING NEWS!

Pam Long Photography will reopen TODAY, Wednesday, August 24, 2016! We are thrilled to be back in our studio again!!

Please contact me to set up your appointment! We are excited to work again and we appreciate your patience since the devastating flood that raged through Historic Ellicott City, July 30, 2016. If you’ve ever considered having me photograph your family, high school senior or your pets, this is a GREAT time to call! 🙂  We will have an amazing time creating beautiful portrait art for you to enjoy for years to come. And remember, we provide business portraits if you’re in need of an updated headshot!

85% of our portraits have been created in our studio or along Main Street, using our beautiful town, buildings and river as backdrops. Though we will not, at this time, have access to Main Street, we do have access to other incredible locations until Main Street reopens. I’m looking forward to creating breathtaking and impressive portraits with you, whether it’s in our studio or on location. Guaranteed fun, no matter where we are! I appreciate the generosity of so many people offering their gorgeous locations for my outdoor sessions.

Please note, access to my studio will be through the back of our building via Church Road, by appointment only, and you’ll be escorted into our ‘gated community’ :-)!

I truly appreciate everyone that has reached out to me this past month. Your words of encouragement have meant the world to me. While I’m thrilled to be working again, I look forward to the day when I see my fellow businesses and residents right back where they belong. xo

I’d like to extend a very special thank you to Pam Mason of Mason and Friends and to Regina Ford and Pete Mangione of Turf Valley Resort and to Kristin (leaving her last name off because it’s her personal property) for offering to share your space, with me and my clients, while mine was not available. You were a special light that shone during a very uncertain time.

Thank you to everybody for your heartfelt messages that you’ve sent! Thank you to friends, my husband and daughters for helping me get my studio up to snuff these past few weeks, I couldn’t be opening today without your help! 🙂 I’ve said many times, that I’m one of the more fortunate ones, with minor damage.  Having said that, it hasn’t been easy in the least. But, I’m looking forward to rECharging, starting TODAY! #ECStrong #rECover
I’m looking forward to hearing from you. 410.988.5563 or pam@pamlongphotography.com
THANK YOU!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It breaks my heart thinking of the lives lost that evening, thinking of the people that suffered, thinking of how powerful the water raged that evening to cause such destruction. So many residents have been displaced and business owners and employees without income because of a two hour span of time!
I will be writing more blogposts about the progress made these past few weeks, but I want to take a moment and thank the county leaders for guiding this mission to help the residents, business owners, building owners and employees of Historic Ellicott City come back stronger. Thank you, Allan Kittleman for your leadership and communication. As progress has evolved, you have continually kept us informed. Thank you, Jon Weinstein, for being here every step of the way, and for immediately turning around, after landing in Spain for your much deserved vacation, to come back and be with us. Thank you to our state leaders for your assistance, thank you Governor Hogan. To the police for working around the clock helping to keep our town secure, thank you. To all of the emergency personnel for everything you’ve done and continue doing, thank you. To Maureen Sweeney-Smith, Karen Besson, Tom Coale and the ECP Board for being beyond awesome while working hard for us. To all of the county workers, working so hard bringing our town back, thank you. I’d like to thank the volunteers and the organizers for all of their time and resources they’ve invested in helping everyone in need, you are AH-MAZING! To the people and businesses that have donated supplies to help with the clean up venture, thank you! To everyone that has donated to http://www.helpellicottcity.com, thank you! To everyone that has donated to personal gofundme pages, thank you. To the neighbors helping neighbors, you are amazing, thank you. To everyone that has shared info and events on social media, raising awareness, thank you. To all of the many businesses hosting fundraisers, thank you. For the young ones having lemonade stands and bake sales, thank you. To the many friends and strangers that booted up and shoveled through stores, helping the business owners, thank you. To my daughters who understood, without getting upset, when we had to cancel our mini vacation, thank you. There are so many people to thank, and again, I’ll write more on that subject, but thank you for keeping the beautiful people of our town in your thoughts and prayers. I’m blessed to be a part of our wonderful commUNITY.
These two photos were taken by my building owner, Ron Peters. Unfortunately, he had three properties damaged by the flood. I appreciate Ron’s endless desire to work swiftly and efficiently to get his tenants back in his houses and buildings. He got the necessary work done and inspectors in asap in order to restore some sort of normalcy for his tenants so they could move back home! I’m happy that the tenants in the Howard House are back in their apartments and his commercial renters can be open for business! I’m fortunate that you are my landlord! Thank you, Ron!! You ROCK!
This is the first day that I headed in to check out the studio.
I hope to hear from you soon and look forward to creating beautiful works of art with you!
Thank you!
“Paint Down Main” Quick Draw Event, Historic Ellicott City
20 08 2016
On July 9, 2016, talented (& calm) artists created artwork that they painted in historic downtown Ellicott City during a TWO hour period.  “Paint Down Main”, Quick Draw competition was held on a hot, but beautiful, Saturday morning and it was an AMAZING event to watch! “Paint Down Main” Quick Draw event is within the Paint It! Ellicott City Plein Air Event. How awesome for spectators to witness a piece of art created and completed in such a short amount of time!
The sponsors of this creative and challenging event were Mat About You Custom Framing & Gallery, Ellicott City Partnership (ECP), Howard County Arts Council, Howard County Tourism.
At noon, the blow of the horn sounded, signaling the finish time, painters gathered at the Howard County Tourism lot, displayed their artwork and waited patiently 🙂 while the jurors judged their art. Judges Steve Stannard of Steve Stannard’s Salient Group,  Char Randolph of ClayGround and Sara Arditti, of Still Life Fine Art Gallery, chose winners in the competition for cash prizes. Patrons could then purchase their favorite painting directly off the easel or visit the Paint Down Main exhibit during the Ellicott City 2nd Sunday Art Market, held at Mat About You Gallery on July 10th.
This awesome event is the brainchild of Chuck Gruss of Mat About You, “We hold this event to give the town’s visitors, a chance to see a piece of art work come together from start to finish.  It’s not too often someone gets a chance to see that happen in a such a short amount of time”.
Last year, 2015, was the inaugural year and welcomed 33 participants competing for $600 in cash prizes! This year, 2016, there were 48 participants competing for $1200 in cash prizes!! Mat About you Custom Framing and Gallery, Ellicott City Partnership and Chesapeake Fine Art Studio all donated toward the cash prizes.
Winners from the “Paint Down Main” Quick Draw;
1st Place “Main Street Ellicott City” by Alison Leigh Menke
2nd Place “Little House, Big Woods” by Courtney E. Lee
3rd Place “Wired” by Ray Ewing
Top Non-Juried “Tiber River Under Parking Lot” by Jane Knighton
Honorable Mentions:
-“Old Columbia Pike” by Tara Will
-“Ask Not” by Joanna Burnum
-“Tiger & Blues” by Ann Crostic
-“Tongue Row” by Deborah Cole
-Under 18 Winner “Oriental Rugs” by Ashley Hof
-Under 18 Honorable Mentions, “Park” by Laila Lowery and “City Shop” by Jonathan Storch
-People’s Choice “Old Columbia Pike” by Tara Will
This is one of the many cultural events held in Historic Ellicott City throughout the year. I am looking forward to having our street back and rockin’ the events again!
As I walked around the Quick Draw boundaries, searching for painters, I was in complete awe with what I saw.  Each painter interpreted their views so differently and every single one of them, so magnificently. I loved seeing the many different techniques the artists displayed, the different interpretations of the same landscape. The unique color choices, some muted, some vibrant. Yet they all had something in common, they each produced incredible and beautiful pieces of art.
I hope you enjoy these photos.
Thank you to everyone involved! Hope to see you next year!
Howard High School Twins Portrait Session
24 06 2016
What a FUN and GREAT time I had with these twin (graduated) high school seniors during their photo shoot! These two seniors are a FANTASTIC reason for mom and dad to be proud! I was very impressed with them during their portrait session and ordering session.They got along so well with each other :-), had fun and laughed with one another, they’re both respectful and an absolute blast to be around! These Class of 2016 Seniors from Howard High School have a tremendous future in front of them.
They have a trio of wall portraits displayed in their home, here is one of their pieces of artwork.Brother and sister formal portrait photographer Howard County Pam Long Photography studio Ellicott City MD
Haley’s Senior Portraits – Howard County photographer
4 09 2015
I was so happy to welcome Haley to our Class of 2016 Spokesmodel Team!  I was acquainted with her family because her younger sister cheered with my oldest daughter in elementary school…a few years a part from one another…so are families didn’t socialize together, but I knew enough to know this was a wonderful family. 🙂 I’m thrilled to have a reason to get to know them more!
Haley is one of those people that always has a beautiful smile on her face and within that smile, her happiness beams. She’s a sweet, caring, beautiful, smart young lady that attends Howard High School. She is involved and succeeds in so many different aspects of her life! She’s a varsity cheerleader for Howard High, a member of the National Honor Society, she’s the President of the Math Honor Society, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, she participates with the Best Buddies Club, Make-A-Wish Club, and Junior Dance Company….I’m not kidding you….she’s amazing! And on top of it, she works at a local restaurant as well!  AND… you’d think she’d be exhausted, perhaps she is,…but you’d never know it because of her pleasant demeanor and sweet personality!  I know her mom and dad are extremely proud of her!
I hope you enjoy her senior portraits.
I certainly enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy, getting to know Haley and her incredible family.  Thank you, Haley,  for choosing me to document this fun and important part of your life!  It’s been a pleasure and I appreciate the belief you’ve placed in me to take your senior photos!  🙂 Karen, THANK YOU, for trusting me to create Haley’s senior portraits,  I’m thrilled that you are so happy with her portraits! Celebrating the wonderful Tersiguel family!
9 07 2015
If you have been to Tersiguel’s French Country Restaurant, then you know how amazing their fabulous cuisine is! In fact, they are celebrating their 40th anniversary of being in business this Saturday! I am thrilled and honored to be photographing this auspicious, sold out, event. We are all so excited about this major milestone and their outstanding accomplishment in Historic Ellicott City.
The founders of Tersiguel’s, Fernand and Odette Tersiguel, are amazing people and I’ve enjoyed getting to know them.  They are an incredible example of the benefits of hard work and determination. They came to the United States in 1963.  In 1980, they opened Chez Fernand on Main Street.  Sadly, the successful Chez Fernand burned to the ground in the fire of 1984.   Fernand and Odette persevered and  re-opened Chez Fernand in downtown Baltimore.   Fortunately for us, they wanted to return to their beloved Ellicott City and Tersiguel’s opened it’s doors, in it’s current location, in October of 1990.
Chef Michel is a 1984 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. After his time in New York, he worked in Baltimore, with his family, he also worked in France and in California (with Michael Chiarello) and later served as Chef de Cuisine at Left Bank in Larskpur.  In 1997, he returned to Ellicott City to take over as Executive Chef and owner of Tersiguel’s.
In addition to valuing and serving magnificent food, they also value family and preserving family history. I had the honor of photographing three generations of Tersiguel’s: Fernand and Odette, their son, Michel and his incredible wife, Angie, and their two beautiful boys; Lucas and Landon. What an fun morning portrait session we had, it was such a glorious day! I was fortunate enough to have Lauren Ward assist me on this sunny day with this very special family. We were inspired by an family photograph of Fernand and Odette taken on their wedding day, in 1963. (They just celebrated 52 years of marriage!) Congratulations! So, we, too, took a family portrait, and used Tersiguel’s as the backdrop. We also created portraits of this beautiful family inside Tersiguel’s, in the Brit dining room. The Brit is short for the Brittany Room. This refers to the region that Fernand and Odette are from. The dishes in this room are called Quimper. That is also the name of the city in which they are made.  Angie shared with me that Quimpler is one of the coolest places she’s been (perhaps that could be the location of your next family portrait session…..I travel 😉 ).  Be sure to view their story and history via their lovely portraits, as they are displayed throughout their restaurant.
Tersiguel’s French Country Restaurant is located at 8293 Main Street, Ellicott City, MD.  Be sure to visit and dine in this delicious  restaurant, voted Best French Restaurant in Howard County, Maryland.  This is definitely a restaurant that your meal time will become a wonderful dining experience and you’ll leave with delightful memories. Tersiguel’s has been the perfect setting for countless birthday celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, graduation festivities, business functions…..imagine if THOSE walls could talk, what an extraordinary story they would tell.
To Fernand, Odette, Michel, Angie, Lucas and Landon, thank you for allowing me the privilege of spending time with you, to get to know you better, and to document more of your family history, what a great honor. I enjoyed my time with you and look forward to enjoying many more great moments together!
To the entire staff, past and present, of Tersiguel’s, thank you for continuing to strive for the best.  You really help provide memorable moments for your dining guests, thank you.
I hope you enjoy these family portraits that we created together.
Until next time, au revoir and bon appetit!
Howard County Launch Party
In March, the Howard County Welcome Center hosted the Launch Party to celebrate the New Official Howard County Visitors and Residents Guide.  The delicious Elkridge Furnace Inn catered the afternoon event.  The Wine Bin supplied the drinks and guests had the opportunity to donate their gently used purses, win raffle prizes, network with fellow residents and business people and even tour the new Howard County Police Museum which is housed in the Visitor Center.  Here are some of the photos from this fun event.
Allyson’s Class of 2015 Senior portraits, Howard High School
13 02 2015
For Allyson’s consultation, during both of her photo shoots and for her Portrait Premiere,  her family was there throughout the entirety and made the experience even more fun!  It doesn’t happen often, but I love when mom and dad, and in this case, beautiful younger sister, comes along to enjoy the Senior Experience.
Allyson is part of our Class of 2015 Senior Spokesmodel team; she attends Howard High School.  She’s quite a remarkable young lady.  She’s beautiful (but doesn’t seem to know it), she’s kind, and intelligent!  She plays Varsity field hockey and lacrosse, and she runs indoor track in the winter!  She is her school’s executive secretary in their Student Government Association.  She is in NHS and the National Spanish Honor Society, as well. Allyson also interns at a pediatrician’s office. And, she is going to be attending Brown University this fall! WOW!!  Congratulations, Allyson!
Allyson was up for anything and really fell into place nicely in front of the camera.  We also had a little shopping spree at one of our favorite boutiques on Main Street, Sweet Elizabeth Jane and courtesy of SEJ, Allyson was able to model some of their clothes and accessories!
I was very touched when I received an email from Allyson with these very kind words:
“Having Pam Long take my senior portraits was one of the best decisions I have made during my senior year! It was truly a unique experience that I believe I would have struggled to find anywhere else. Pam made me feel like the most beautiful and important girl in the world throughout the entire photography process, and I wish I could do it all over again! My mom’s favorite part was watching the slideshow with all of the photos in it. The beautiful pictures matched with sentimental music brought an unmeasurable amount of emotion with them. Pam’s photos capture a moment in time that my family and I will never forget. Thanks Pam, you are simply the best!  I was overjoyed when my dad brought my pictures home, and I can’t wait to share them with everyone else.  Thank you again!”
Allyson, you are welcome.  It was very much my pleasure!  Thank YOU!  I am glad that you chose Pam Long Photography and thrilled to have gotten to know you. So excited that you’re part of our Class of 2015 Spokesmodel team! I know you’re going to continue to shine in college.  I hope you pop in to say hi whenever you’re home on break. 😀
Chris and Mike, thank you so very much for the honor of creating your daughter’s senior portraits.  Thank you, also, for hanging out with us during her photo shoots!  Your daughters are truly sweet, beautiful and intelligent young ladies; I know you are proud! 🙂
Opera singing, rock climbing, vinyl collecting Class of 2015 Senior!
2 11 2014
I love getting to know my clients and Amanda is one amazing high school senior! Amanda is a Class of 2015 Senior at Centennial High School in Ellicott City, MD.  She’s got a great style and sense of being.  She collects vinyl records, she’s a very talented and gifted opera singer and a great friend to many!  Amanda also juggles her busy schedule to include one of her favorite sports….rock climbing.    Centennial High School has an incredible group of singers that join together to form the  school’s Madrigal choir, and Amanda is a member.  Amanda’s highlight this year was to study at Tanglewood, at Boston University this past summer.
Senior yearbook pictures Howard County photographer Ellicott City
“What we loved most about Pam is that she incorporated Amanda’s personality and interests into every second of  her senior portrait session.  From the music Amanda wanted to hear at the shoot, to her unique style of fashion, to the different locations that were personal to her.  All the while making the sessions fun, exciting and, most importantly,  making Amanda feel special.  We were so pleased with Pam Long Photography and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone in need of an experienced, creative and caring photographer.”     Susan and Amanda Krew
When I first met with Amanda and her mom to discuss plans for her custom portrait sessions, ideas were flowing!  She has so many cool interests.  When I realized she collects vinyl lp’s, I immediately thought of the cool new record store that opened down the street from my studio this year.  If you haven’t had the chance to visit Archives Music and Games, you must put it on your list!   They moved to Historic Ellicott City’s Main Street this past year and are a welcome addition. Amanda was already familiar with the store, she’d been there many times, so she was down with the idea to have part of her photo shoot there.  A huge thank you to Jason, from Archives Music and Games, for allowing us to set up, in his store, for this portion of her shoot!  Also, a big thank you goes to Tanya, from A Journey from Junk.  After Tanya learned that Amanda loves vintage clothing, she brought her true vintage dresses from her own closet to wear!  The awesome dress that Amanda is wearing in these next few images are thanks to Tanya. xoxo 🙂
We were also very fortunate to have created some of her portraits in the Peabody Library.  She has studied music at the Peabody Institute for several years.  I was elated that we could spend a few minutes within the walls of that beautiful, amazing building.  Amanda even sang for us, which was a real treat! Her voice is rich and powerful, yet so clear and delicate at the same time.  Her voice soared throughout the library perfectly, as if she’d performed there for years. An amazing future awaits this talented young lady!
Jason’s Senior Portraits {Ellicott City High School Senior Photographer}
22 10 2014
“Pam really captured the essence of Jason in the photo shoot. When I look at his portraits years from now, I will be reminded of who he was in this stage of his life, and I will treasure and be forever grateful for the memory.”  Jo Ann Kohler
I had a great time meeting with Jason and his mom to discuss their needs and wants for senior portraits.  Of course, like most senior guys, he was pretty much here because mom wanted him to be! Most guys aren’t running in to our photography studio asking us to take their pictures.  But….we find, once they’re done, they realize it’s not that bad and they have a great time! 😀 Jason, very kindly, writes, “I felt that the session went very smoothly.  It was easy and I had fun with it!  We got a little creative and I truly enjoyed the experience. I think I could have shot for another hour to be honest! Thank you, Pam.  Sincerely, Jason”
We are proud and honored that Jason is one of our Class of 2015 Senior Spokesmodels.  He is, like most seniors, very busy with a lot of activities and commitments.  Not only does he play baseball and run cross country for Marriotts Ridge High School, but he’s on the Student Government Executive Board too! Seniors have a lot on their plates and balancing their schedules between academic achievements, extracurricular activities, college applications…to name a few, can be a challenge.  I’m always so impressed to see them handle everything!  I’m excited to see what is in Jason’s future!  I know it’ll be magnificent!
We created Jason’s portraits in our photography studio, as well as some of our favorite spots along Main Street in our Historic Ellicott City. I hope you enjoy them; we really had a great time creating them with him.
Thank you, Jason, (and Jo Ann 🙂 ) for choosing Pam Long Photography for your senior portrait needs.
Historic Ellicott City Spring Celebration Howard County Stand Up-Blue Pinky Project
11 06 2014
We welcomed in Spring with a BANG in Historic Ellicott City last month! Ellicott City held it’s annual Spring Festival which included several bands, artisans, vendors, craft beer gardens, children’s activities, yummy treats, and specials at the local shops, restaurants, salons and boutiques. The weather was just perfect – we had both sunshine and a breeze! It was such a glorious day!  Main Street was jam-packed with people of all ages enjoying themselves!
Here at Pam Long Photography, we championed HoCo’s Stand Up – Blue Pinky Project, which is Howard County’s anti-bullying campaign.  Keri, the Director of the County’s Office of Children’s Services (the office which oversees the county’s Stand Up HoCo campaign) and her daughter, Josie, came to our studio for several hours on Saturday to help us raise awareness about bullying. Keri provided literature that gave information about bullying and ways to prevent bullying, she brought anti-bullying bracelets that were given out, book marks, and lots of blue fingernail polish!!  We were able to paint over a hundred pinky fingernails blue, showing our stand against bullying. We even had some men who agreed to have their pinky nails painted and a few of our canine friends participated, as well. Check out all of the cute photos below!
A huge thank you to everyone that help prepare for this day, for those that initiated this campaign, for those that continue the push to spread the word, and for everyone that came out during Springfest and pledged against bullying!  I appreciate Jaki Ulman’s enormous efforts in partnering with StandUp HoCo to start Blue Pinky Project here in Howard County, MD. We are so very proud and thankful of all the efforts made!
Seems like Elvis coordinated his outfit that day in honor of Blue Pinky Project! 🙂
Our front porch was bursting with energy! We had our nail painting station and Stand Up HoCo info displayed on a table on the porch. The cool breeze carried the sounds from awesome live music up to us. We had A LOT of help that day from some of our incredible high school senior clients: Liana, Nikki, Lindsay, and Oru! THANK YOU, ladies!  Y’all are awesome! They greeted people and encouraged people on the street to come up and check out what was happening at Pam Long Photography! After people had their pinky nails painted, they were ushered into our beautiful studio where they could sign our anti-bully board! We got a TON of signatures! (Yay!!) We’re proud of everyone that has taken a stand against bullying! 🙂
Participants had the choice to enter our free raffle. Later that day we picked five lucky winners!!! The winners and their prizes were:  Christa Lee won a $90 intensive therapy conditioning treatment, cut and style from Salon Marielle! Marianthy Mendez and Nala Jackson both won $100 toward a future session at Pam Long Photography! Sandra Barton won a $25 gift certificate for a manicure to Ooh la Lal. Christa Wheeler won a gift basket loaded with bath and body products and jewelry from A Journey from Junk!  Congratulations to all our winners and thank you Salon Marielle, Ooh la Lal, and A Journey from Junk for your donations towards the cause!! We appreciate your partnership.
Our blue pinky participants also had their photos taken in the studio, with our Stand Up HoCo sign, showing off their blue pinkies! It was such a fun, bustling day! We had several local politicians stop by our studio and support anti-bullying! Among them: Courtney Watson, Lisa Markovitz, Jon Weinstein,Tom Coale, and Chris Merdon. We had the pleasure of Lauren Ruth Ward help us paint pinkies! She is an incredible barber at Ooh la Lah and an extremely talented musician! Thank You again, Lauren!
